"Never Give Up"

res·o·lu·tion
n.

1 The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination.
2 A course of action determined or decided on

Much of success in business has to do with determination. Over and over we hear of entrepreneurs who found success after one, two, three or even more failures.

What changed? Was it that they gained more experience, or got better ideas? Or was it that they finally modified their behavior in such a way that finally allowed for success?

The next question seems obvious. Is it necessary to have a string of failures to modify our behavior to insure success?

Have you ever driven a car on a dry but previously muddy road? The ruts left by those who traveled before you make it hard to forge a new trail. Try as you might to stay out of those ruts, you feel the tug on the wheel and without further warning you slip right back into them. Then comes the fight to get back out again.

Of course when it comes to modifying your own behavior those ruts are your own and the trail is all too familiar. No wonder it's harder than ever to forge your new path.

Here are four behaviors that are easy to adopt and will make it easier for you to create success.

1. Be Realistic. You have to give yourself a chance for success. If your goals are too much of a reach (beyond your own belief system) then you've just given yourself a recipe for failure. Over time you can stretch yourself to bigger and bigger goals. The reason so many entrepreneurs fail over and over then finally find success is that each failure stretches their own belief system. Each time they reached farther and farther, got closer and closer until success became believable to them.

You don't have to drive in that rut if you consciously work on stretching your own belief system and reach first for the goal that you believe is possible.

2. Be Educated. Learning what you don't know through education is much easier than through the school of hard knocks. A sound business education that also addresses and expands what you believe is possible is a critical component. CEO Space offers an incredible education in a transactional environment, that in just one week, greatly enhances the likelihood of business success.

3. Be Specific. Write your goals down so you can refer to them often. Nothing clarifies the mind like having to express yourself so someone else can understand your direction and goals. Let those who are working with you hear them so they understand and can support your direction.

Caution: While telling other people you're going to do something increases your own belief, pick the people carefully. It can actually be detrimental to tell others if they respond negatively. You don't need another naysayer. Select people that you respect and admire, and who will support your goals.

3. Be Persistent. It takes at least 30 days for a change in behavior to become a habit and six months for a habit to become a natural part of your personality.

Persistence is one of the required traits for real super achievers. There is a direct correlation between those who have been able to acquire new beliefs that bring them success and their ability to persist despite setbacks.

In the words of one who knows all about true resolve, Ron Heagy, "Never give up!"
